The basics of knitting: Knit Stitch

A friend and I were talking the other day and it seems she has forgotten some of her basics. I thought this would be a good opportunity to go over the basics of the knit stitch.

Knit Stitch

Remember that when you are making a knit stitch the bump of yarn created by the stitch will end up on the backside of your work. The way I remember how to knit stitch is as follows
  • First make sure you have your hands set up properly with the needle that has all the cast on stitches in your left hand and the empty needle in your right hand.
  • You then stick the point of the empty needle in your right hand into the first stitch at the end of your left hand needle. You will stick it in to the loop from the bottom keeping your empty left needle behind your full left needle : Since you want the bump in the back of your work, you stick the needle into the bottom of the stitch and back of the other needle.
  • Then you wrap your yarn tail around the back of the needles then between them
  • Catch the yarn between the two needles with your right hand needles (this will cause a new stitch to appear on your right hand needle)
  • slide the stitch you had been working with from your left hand needle
REMEMBER: for knit stitch the bump goes in the back so you insert from the bottom and wrap around the back.

The Beginning of Blogging

Well, I have finally decided to begin a blog to keep track of our family memories, as well as our big projects. I also hope to be able to share what God is doing in our lives through this blog as well. I'm pretty excited sharing our journey and stories with you all.
